The Brain Initiative project gave robots to four libraries across Australia.
One woman at one of the libraries said that the robots are teaching the kids a
skill set, critical thinking skills, and how to problem solve.
Ray the Robot is one of those robots, and it can walk, dance, follow
instructions, and get kids excited about coding with computers. With the
technology industry constantly growing, kids are at an advantage if they
learn the basics at a young age, which could then even land some of them into high-tech jobs in the future.

Text 2: Can You Learn English Using Games?
Yes, English learning games and even video games can help you learn and master English faster and
improve overall comprehension. Research studies have concluded that video games enhance traditional
learning methods and make mastering a new language like English fun and exciting. Without the firm
foundation in grammar and vocabulary provided by conventional
learning programs, however, you will not be able to learn English with games alone.
When combined with a solid foundation in vocabulary and
grammar, video games help students improve reading,
comprehension, and even speaking skills. The key is practice, practice, and more practice!
Learning games and video games naturally require the integration
of several linguistic skills including reading, listening, speaking, and even writing in some games. And by
removing the fear of making mistakes so common in students in traditional classroom settings, students
are free to practice the language and further develop their linguistic and cognitive abilities in the process.

Code is the language used to instruct computers. Facebook, your mobile apps and your browser are all
made with code! And there are a range of different programming
languages you can use - HTML, for example, is the computer code
used to create web pages.
Until 2014, British children were taught ICT (Information and
communications technology) in schools, which basically showed them
how to use technology. Under the new curriculum, there is a much
greater emphasis on learning about computers and teaching children
how to use code.
Children as young as five get practical experience of designing and writing computer programmes so
that they understand the basic principles of computer science.
Not everything will change; children will still learn how to use email, for example, but now they'll be
taught how networks like the Internet actually work too.

7. True/False We use code to give instructions to computers.
8. True/False HTML is the programming language of apps.
9. True/False Before 2014, students in Britain didn't learn ICT.
10. True/False Nowadays, British pupils learn how to code in school.
11. True/False Children design and write computer programmes from the age of five.
12. True/False Children will no longer need to learn how to use email.
2 Read the following text on learning English through Skype. Then, decide if the statements are
True (T) or False (F).
Learning English through Skype
Nowadays, it is very easy to find the answer to a question within minutes, or even to talk to a friend on
the other side of the world. Learning English on Skype has never been easier.
No need to travel
It is very likely that, if you are on the internet then you are either using a computer, laptop or mobile
phone. That is all you need to be able to connect, which most of us can do from home or work. Even if
you do not have any English teachers near to where you are, you can find them online.
This is perfect not only for those of us with busy schedules who can only fit in time to study in our
lunch breaks or on the way home from work, as it means we can log on and immediately be available.
Flexible and adaptable
As you will not need to travel, learning English on
Skype is much more flexible and adaptable. If something
happened last minute, such as an accident or an emergency
meeting at work, your speaking partner will already be online
to see your message about not being able to attend the lesson.
That, and all of us can find a spare 30 minutes during the day
where we can learn English. Some people may choose to do
their household chores whilst studying, others may be on their way to meet their friend. Whenever you
have a spare moment and Internet access, you can be learning English on Skype.
Easy to utilise technology
Considering we are already connected and online, it is very easy to use this technology effectively to
better explain our ideas, opinions and feelings. It takes just a few moments to find a link and send to your
