Coco Chanel was born in Saumur, France in 1883. She was a famous fashion designer. In
1913, she began her career with a hat shop in Deauville. Then she quickly added sweaters,
skirts and jewellery to her collection and everyone wanted to buy her clothes. She also made
perfumes such as Chanel No 5. Chanel was a very beautiful woman, but she didn’t marry
and didn’t have any children. She died in Paris in 1971.
Ellen MacArthur was born on July 8th, 1976 in England. When she was eight years old, her
aunt took her sailing and Ellen fell in love with the ocean. When she was 18, Ellen sailed
around Britain alone in her boat Iduna. In 1997, she went to France and bought a boat called
Le Poisson. In 2005, Ellen became world-famous when she sailed her boat 43,000
kilometres around the world alone. “Sailing is my job. It’s a fantastic job and I’m very lucky”, she said.
